The Excavator - Kobelco SK17SR-3

The central component of our business is the excavator. It's a Kobelco SK17SR-3. The Kobelco has an operating weight of 1,650 kg and a dig depth of 2150mm.

The Kobelcos’ greatest asset is its ability to retract its undercarriage to a width of only 990mm. This allows it access to most backyards, it can then spread its tracks to a width of 1320mm to give more stability and digging power. When the undercarriage is at 1320mm width, the machine becomes true zero tail swing, this means there is no overhang of the rear portion of the machine housing, allowing 180 degree rotation of the housing without risk of hitting anything. The machine is capable of digging and dumping behind itself in an area only 1.5M wide.

The machine is fitted with rubber tracks providing minimum impact to soft surfaces and no scratching or chipping of hard surfaces. The three post canopy provides roll over protection and falling object protection but can be removed in suitable circumstances to allow access through areas with low headroom.

Augers

Bullant Excavations has a hydraulic auger with 300mm and 450mm bits that can extend to a dig depth of 3 meters. This gives us the capability of digging pier holes for building foundations, fence post or holes for retaining wall posts. The auger bits are fitted with tungsten teeth for better penetration.

Blade

The Kobelco is fitted with a blade and is used for leveling material after backfilling trenches or it can be used to level large areas quickly. The blade is an effective tool for leveling out road base for paving and driveways.

Hammer

Our Montabert hammer is a high quality hammer able to break rock and concrete such as driveways, paths and old footings. It can also demolish other materials such as bricks and tiles. Montebert hammers are renowned for durability and reliability. Matched with our Kobelco SK17SR-3, Bullant Excavations can handle any hammering requirements where tight access is a problem.

Trenching Buckets

We have two trenching buckets that can cover most standard applications for footings, electrical and plumbing situations. Trenching or digging buckets have teeth to provide penetration into unbroken ground for efficient speedy digging.

We also have a “mud” or batter bucket. A mud bucket is a large, in our case 1 meter wide, bucket with a smooth cutting edge. It is used for moving large amounts of material such as loading trucks or for digging in soft material such as sand or mulch. It is also used for smoothing surfaces or slopes.
